What Is Secret Sentences About?

The resource begins with two picture alphabet reference pages. Each letter is represented by its own picture, with separate references provided for lowercase and capital letters.

Children then use these alphabet keys to solve the secret sentences.

They look at each picture, find the matching picture on the alphabet page and write its corresponding letter in the box below. As they work through the pictures, letters become words and words reveal the hidden sentence.

Once the sentence has been decoded, children write the complete sentence on the lines provided, remembering that a sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. The activity format is repeated across pages 5–14, giving children plenty of opportunities to practice.
